Apple Works

This morning we headed to the apple orchard to meet our dear friends, Lucas, Micah, Caleb and Susan. Sam was excited about seeing his friends and talked about them the whole way down. The orchard was neat, with lots to do. The boys enjoyed the barn to climb around in, complete with rope swings! We probably spent the most time by the animals. They had goats, a turkey, peacocks, sheep and more. Andrew was enthralled by this baby goat. I love this picture of him looking at the goat:)
Micah and Sam had fun "feeding" the calf. At one point I heard one of the boys tell the other one to "pick the cows nose." I was scared to look and see if the other boy did.

The best I could do with five wild boys! It turned out precious!!
It was special today because the train was operating. Usually it just operates on the weekend, but a school group was present and we also where able to have a ride. Everyone enjoyed it.

The orchard was beautiful!
I came home with 1 peck of apples, what beauties!! Look for some apple recipes this week on my blog as I cook with them!
We had a wonderful day and it was special to meet up with friends.

I have a great recipe for apple-cranberry bread if you want it. We picked apples with our small group friends last year, and I had waaaay too many, so I made 4 loaves of bread to freeze!

Today was the first day of cross country season for the Junior High team.  The thing about XC is that the work is put in during the summer months with early morning runs, afternoon runs, track workouts, and hill repeats.  All that work starts to become evident during these days when the races start. Jacob woke up feeling excited to get the season started.  Abigail work up at 5:48am to fix her hair and get ready for the bus.  Abram was pretty nervous as he woke up. 5th grade girls The kids ran their hearts out and did so well for the first meet. Jacob placed 2nd for his team and 3rd overall to help the boys varsity team clutch 1st place for Varsity Boys team.  Abigail looked strong and had an overall 4th place finish for the JV girls and placed 2nd for her team. Abram looked blocked it at the beginning but certainly made up for it with a strong ending to finish 1st place in the JV boys race. Let's go Tigers!

Uncle Nathan, Aunt Heather and Caleb Visit

On Saturday, Nathan, Heather and Caleb came for a visit.  We had an absolutely beautiful day, and we wanted to spend the day outside.  Some people had recommended Maymont Park.  Maymont is a park that is hundreds of acres with a stone castle and barn, some animals, and lots of space for the boys to run around. Andrew wanted to get his boots wet and Aunt Heather supervised.  I am glad we crated more boots! The walk with beautiful and we enjoyed visiting along the way. There was lots of rock climbing... and lots of goats! Jacob and Caleb did a great job riding around in the strollers, but needed some time to stretch too! I love this picture of Nathan and Caleb.  He is such a great daddy and I love to see him with Caleb. Sam enjoyed a cigar at the park too.  (I joke!) The little babies ate some grass. Summer flew by, as it always does, and we are looking forward to a great school year! I forgot a group shot because Sam had Senior Sunrise Breakfast on the first day and was up and going to school at 6:30am!
