A Day with Some Girls

Image
Yesterday I had the opportunity to travel east and help with a program for young girls.  It was a blast.  The girls come every week for tutoring and a small program.  I spoke on beauty being on the inside and they seemed really attentive.  I did make them do some hand motions which they were less than enthused about.  Note to self for next time! After some discussion, the girls made beads and bracelets.  They were really creative and very into making the bracelets. Jacob and I had a fun day and I hope to do it again in the future.

Mr. Bill

Today, in my hometown, there will be a funeral for a very special man.  Mr. Bill, as I have called him since he was my Sunday School teacher at age 4, died on Monday and left an impact on many lives including mine. In Mr. Bill's class we did many fun things.  I remember singing "If the devil doesn't like it he can sit on a tack" very loud and often.  I remember playing Bible picture games.  But, my most clear memory is the day we talked about Jesus on the Mount of Olives. I still don't like olives and now I live in the land of the olives! Every time I am offered an olive, and must eat it to be polite, I will think of Mr. Bill.  And while I mourn along with his family, I also rejoice that we can have assurance of eternal life through Jesus Christ.  The Bible says "For the wages o...

Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy!

The following conversation may or may not have happened this morning during language, all in Arabic. Language teacher, "Hap, how are you?" Hap, "I am happy." Language teacher, "Happy, good." Hap, "What is the word for 'joy'" Language teacher, "Joy is farrah ." Hap then begins to sing "I have the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart." Language teacher laughs and laughs. Apparently, Hap was mispronouncing the words and was really singing "I have the mouse, mouse, mouse, mouse down in my dog." Another day of language!!!
